With the rapid growth of the elderly population, the demand for long-term care has also increased. Care home residents, due to aging and physical decline, not only face physical ailments but also experience a dual impact on their mental well-being, which ultimately affects their quality of life. Therefore, this study explores the impact of competitive sports group activities on care home residents by utilizing competitive sports in long-term care facilities. The research employed a single-case design, participant observation, and in-depth interviews. Fifteen care home residents were selected to participate in and lead competitive sports group activities. Research instruments included a quality of life questionnaire, group work records, and interview outlines. The collected data were analyzed, and the findings of this study are as follows: The study demonstrates that participation in competitive sports group activities has a multifaceted positive impact on the quality of life of care home residents. Firstly, engaging in such group activities allows participants to enhance their physical health, further improving their fitness and sporting abilities. Secondly, participation in group activities contributes to the psychological well-being of the residents by enhancing their emotional states and sense of happiness. Additionally, it facilitates social relationships among the residents, fostering interpersonal interactions and social support. Thus, the results of this study indicate that involvement in competitive sports group activities effectively enhances the quality of life of care home residents.
