The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship and influence among environmental cognition, recreation experience, and learning effectiveness of junior high school students participating in overnight camping. Besides, this study was also to explore the differences of environmental cognition, recreation experience, and learning effectiveness of junior high school students participating in overnight camping with different demographic characteristics (gender, preference subjects, experience of camping).
In this study, the subjects were students who were at their second year of junior high, studying in a junior high school in Taichung city, participating in overnight camping in Pushin Ranch from October 25, 2018 to October 26, 2018. Questionnaire for these students were conducted during the period of March 29, 2019 to April 8, 2019. Three hundred and seventy-three valid data were used to analyze as the results.
The results of this study were the followings:
1. There were significant differences between the gender of respondents and the respondents’ knowledge and skill of environmental action strategy. There were significant differences between the experience of respondents who used to camp with their family and the respondents’ knowledge and skill of environmental action strategy. There were significant differences between the respondents’ preference subjects and the respondents’ knowledge of environmental issues.
2. There were significant differences between the gender of respondents and the respondents’ emotional experience. There were significant differences between the experience of respondents who used to camp with their family and the respondents’ five-stage model of the recreation experience. There were significant differences between the mother’s education level of respondents and the respondents’ think experience. There were significant differences between the respondents’ preference subjects and the respondents’ sensing experience.
3. There were significant differences among the gender of the respondents, the respondents’ preference subjects, and the respondents’ three dimensions of learning effectiveness.
4. There was significantly positive correlation among the respondents’ three dimensions of learning effectiveness, and the respondents’ five dimensions of recreation experience.
Based on the results, it is recommended to encourage the camping industry to design more parent-child activities, more intensively emotional courses, more intensively environmental cognition education, and more off-campus classes. Hopefully, this study could be a reference for educational authorities and related practitioners. |
