The main purpose of this study is to explore the effects of skipping sports training intervention on scholastic achievement and physical fitness of the overweight eighth-grade students. In order to achieve the purpose, the study adopts an experimental approach, i.e. this study is based on 40 eighth-grade over weighted students in Changhua County, who are randomly divided into either experimental group or control group. All the subjects in the experimental group and control group take physical fitness examination both before and after the experiment. Pre-test of the subjects’ scholastic achievement originates from their seventh-grade Chinese and math school rankings while post-test originates from their eighth-grade Chinese and math school rankings. The test data is analyzed with paired samples t-test and independent sample t-test. The obtained results are as follows: (A)The pre-test and post-test of the paired samples t-test show that the subjects’ height, BMI, four health-related physical fitness performance and the school rankings of Chinese and math all reach significant level(p<.05). (B)The experimental group and control group are analyzed with independent sample t-test, and the result shows that the difference between the two groups in body weight, BMI, sit and reach test, standing long jump, Chinese school rankings, and academic school rankings all reach significant level(p<.05). Thus, 12-week skipping sport training intervention can reduce the weight and BMI of obese eighth-grade students, improve the performance of sit and reach test and standing long jump, and make progress in their studies.
