Abstract: Most domestic studies on turnover of nursing personnel focused on the correlation between job pressure and job burnout, as well as that between job pressure and job satisfaction. However, there is a lack of studies on emotional intelligence, social support, job involvement, and turnover intention. This study intends to investigate the issues concerning various aspects of nursing personnel, including emotional intelligence, social support, job involvement, and turnover intention, to make up for the deficiencies of past studies.
The research subjects enrolled in this study were nursing personnel in the central and southern Taiwan. A total of 370 valid questionnaires were retrieved, with a valid return rate of 94.87%. SPSS18 and Amos18 were used to perform statistical analyses. The analysis methods included descriptive statistics, factor analysis, reliability analysis, independent sample t test, MANOVA, and structural equation modeling. The research results showed that, emotional intelligence has a significant positive influence on social support and job involvement; social support has a significant positive influence on job involvement; social support has a significant negative influence on turnover intention; job involvement has a significant negative influence on turnover intention. The findings can be provided as reference for development of human resource management strategies of hospitals, recruitment of nursing personnel, retention of excellent nursing personnel, and development of guidelines for better hospital service quality and performance.
