While caring for patients with cerebrovascular accident, health professionals focused on rehabilitation, nutrition and so on, but rarely denoted themselves to palliative care in the process of long-term care. In order to improve the quality of life of patients with cerebrovascular accident and their families, understanding patients' needs in physical, psychological, social and spiritual aspects, using communication skills and thinking about ethical issues of decision-making for dying patients will be important in promoting palliative care service in clinical practice. This article aims to describe the palliative care needs of patients with cerebrovascular accident, in order to arouse public concern about the importance of palliative care for patients with cerebrovascular accident. In addition, health professionals should understand concepts and strategies of palliative care in order to achieve high quality of palliative care. By empowering the health professionals through continuing education, we hope to implement palliative care in clinical care of patients with cerebrovascular accident.
