    Title: Association analysis of atherosclerosis with Triple H ( hypertension , hyperlipidemia , hyperglycemia ) : a verification study of national health insurance data in Taiwan

    Abstract: Atherosclerosis disease is a major disease of the 21st century. It is also the modern diseases of civilization of society. According to statistics of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Atherosclerosis related diseases envelop three leading causes of death in Taiwan, including cerebrovascular disease, cardiovascular disease, and hypertensive disease. The National Health Insurance has been founded for more than 18 years since March 1995. Since 2000, in order to promote health-related research, the Central Health Insurance Bureau entrust the National Institutes of Health to issue the National Health Insurance database. It is expected to accumulate evidence data through the health data, and thereby bringing depth health insurance policies. Therefore, we adopted the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database to explore demographic characteristics and three high risk factors regarding atherosclerosis disease.
    This study adopted secondary data of the National Institutes of Health. The database data file (ID file) and outpatient prescriptions and treatment detail file (CD files) from the Health Insurance data for 1996-2005 Coverage were analyzed. The patients with atherosclerosis were filter form outpatient prescription and treatment detail file according to atherosclerosis ICD-9-CM code 440. The same amount patients without atherosclerosis were sampling randomly.
    The results showed that the minimum age of the patient with atherosclerotic disease was age 0, maximum age was 87 years old, average age was 58.6 years old. The major population of which was age 60 above. Chi-square analysis showed that atherosclerosis correlated with the presence of three H (P <0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that the patients with three H had a relative higher risk of suffering from atherosclerosis, the risk odds were 20.833, 5.988, and 6.329 for hypertension, hyperglycemia, and hyperlipidemia respectively (P <0.001).
