    Abstract: Newspaper In Education is NIE, namely "Newspaper In Education" for short .The purposes of this research are to examine the effects on the word recognition abilities of first-grade students in a rural elementary school in Pingtung Country, help them to establish a positive attitude toward newspaper reading, and provide an opportunity for teachers to improve teaching skills. MDNWEEKLY was selected in this research as teaching material, and a course designed for the target participants, which is based on game teaching theory and reading strategies, was given both in class and after class.
    The participants of the research were the first-grade students taught by the researcher. The students took a ten-week “NIE game teaching” course. The pre-test and post-test results of “Choose the Correct Characters”, the teacher’s journal, the teacher’s reflection, the feedback questionnaires answered by the students and the parents, course feedback questionnaires, the record of the student’s newspaper reading, the interview summary, and the assignments completed by the students were collected and analyzed.
    The conclusions based on the results of the research will be stated as following:
    1.The NIE game teaching course can improve the student’s word
    recognition abilities.
    2.The NIE game teaching course can help students establish the positive
    attitude toward newspaper reading.
    3.Both the parents and the students agree to the idea that NIE is
    beneficial for learning.
    4.Find solutions from the teacher’s reflection, as a reference for future
    implementation NIE.

    The advice of NIE teaching based on the results of this research is also provided for educators of NIE Experimental Class and as the references for future researches.
