    Abstract: The invited paper presents state-of-the-art
    technologies of distance education systems. A survey
    of current approaches in distance education is given,
    including a historical perspective of media
    technologies for learning. The paper also discusses
    current systems available and potential research
    directions to enhance these systems. Methodological
    and sociological issues of distance education are also
    discussed. A number of distance education tools
    implemented at Tamkang University, Taiwan will be
    demonstrated in the invited talk.
