According to UNESCO on International Mother Language Day’s Eve in 2009, among 6,000 languages around the world, about 2,500 languages were nearly disappearing. Twenty-four languages in Taiwan were in danger or even extinct. In Taiwan, in addition to Mandarin, there are Taiwanese, Hakka, and other languages, among which Taiwanese is the largest mother tongue ethnic group in Taiwan. To protect those mother languages from extinction, MOE has promoted mother language teaching in elementary schools so that the cultures of each ethnic group can be saved by designing standard mother language characters and the Gwoyeu Romatzyh system. However, most of the Taiwanese character designs refer to Rhyming Dictionary and make a lot of announced characters lose connection among forms, sounds, and meaning, causing the chaos in both teaching and learning. In this paper, we utilize reverse engineering to solve the mystery of Taiwanese-Chinese characters. In this way, we can not only easily find out the correspondences in Taiwanese-Chinese characters and references but also help teachers and students learn happily. |
