Abstract The study aims to analyze the effect of multimedia computer-assisted instruction on the teaching of integer arithmetic operations in elementary school. The populations of this study are eight classes, including 272 fourth-grade students of elementary school in Nantou Country. This study adopted quasi-experimental design. The researcher chose four classes randomly, including 137 students to the experimental group, and the other four classes, 135 students to the control group. In doing so, this study want to find out whether it is significant or not between two groups. The experimental units are selected from Lesson 6 of arithmetic textbook, Volume 8. The study applies multimedia computer-assisted instructions of integer arithmetic operations designed by the researcher to the teaching experiment of the two groups of students. The effects of learning integer arithmetic operations in different teaching methods were processed by means of descriptive statistics, which include arithmetic mean, standard deviation, frequency distribution histogram, z-test and t-test. The conclusions of this study are as follows: 1. Multimedia computer-assisted teaching has significant effect on enhancing efficiency of learning integer arithmetic operations. 2. By comparing two groups, we find that there are significant progresses in learning integer arithmetic operations for boys and girls. Multimedia computer-assisted teaching is both useful to lower-achievement and higher-achievement students. This study shows that the multimedia computer-assisted teaching website made by researcher is effective. 3. The study finds that it is not significant between boys and girls while using the multimedia computer-assisted teaching at the same time.
