Abstract: Under the shrinking domestic market, promoting the opportunities and enhancing the ability of export trade, and furthermore requesting for international collaboration have become the tendency in the business environment in Taiwan. Besides, large-scale projects are more complicated day by day, not only better ability of quality control, but also stronger and more communication interfaces are needed, hence project development processes are facing tougher challenges. Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) emphasizes on the internal process management and continuous process improvement of the organization, and its impartial and objective appraisal procedures and world-wide recognized maturity level accredited results are one of the important interfaces to bridge the international business.

Therefore, this research focuses on the practices of applying CMMI to the newly developed project according to the guidelines released by the Institute for Information Industry of Taiwan and IDEAL (Initiating, Diagnosing, Establishing, Acting, and Learning) model and uses Integrated Project Management process area as indicators of process improvement. Because of single process area is applied, the Continuous Representation of CMMI is adopted to improve the development processes in developing the hospital information system. Finally, some experiments are done in practices and results are discussed to prove that applying CMMI to the project development can improve the development processes effectively.
