To increase the competitiveness of software industry, reduced product development life cycle and integrated processes are necessary to cut down production cost. Concurrent engineering is a systematic method which can effectively integrate product design processes and reduce the product development life cycle. In order to improve the software quality, the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie-Mellon University proposed Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI). Since the detailed description of how to reach the goals are not listed, and only the indices of goals are set up, concurrent engineering is applied to the integrated project management process area in continuous representation.
The purpose of the application of concurrent engineering is that the information can be shared between the specific goals and specific practices to achieve the indices. The concurrent method can not only reduce the time and cost of software development, but also provide flexible planning for CMMI.
