Abstract: | Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore teachers? understanding of smoking harm, attitudes towards anti-smoking, smoking behavior, behaviors endangering health, and self-health evaluation effect their ideas and support of smokeless campus program.
This study targets full-time teachers above lecturer level at two universities (regular university and medical university) in Changhua City and Taichung City in central Taiwan. Questionnaire survey is made in purpose selection with a total of 319 valid responded questionnaires.
The findings are: 1? The respondents have insufficient understanding of smoke harm, weaker attitude towards anti-smoking,less smoking behavior and are positive towards smokeless campuses.2?The respondents stressing health more have higher identification with smokeless campuses.3?The respondents who do not smoke tend to support and coordinate with the smokeless campus program. 4?Understanding of smoke harm, anti-smoking attitude and self-health evaluation of respondents have positive links with smokeless campuses. Smoking behavior of the respondents is negative linked with smokeless campuses.5?The estimated variances of ideas on smokeless campuses: personal backgrounds, understanding of smoke harm, anti-smoking attitude, smoking behavior, wine drinking behavior, betel nut chewing, and self-health evaluation have greatest influence.
Suggestions: in order to conduct anti-smoking education of smokeless campuses at universities, teaching personnel?s knowledge of smoke harm, anti-smoking attitude, and eradication of behaviors endangering health have to be enhanced. Also, one has to increase the support and identification of male teaching personnel on promotion of smokeless campuses. These will help smokeless campuses program in order to achieve the goal of anti-smoking, smokeless campuses for health. |
