The purpose of this study was to explore the oral health knowledge, attitude, practice and their related factors of elementary schoolchildren. It also studied the relationship between the support and satisfaction of teachers and the oral health knowledge, attitude, practice of students. The research is the questionnaire survey from Yaw-Jang Chiou who made for Keelung City and Chayi City elementary school?s fifth and sixth students and teachers on November, 2002. The sampling methods are as follow: general sampling for teachers and systematic sampling for students. Total effective samples for analysis in this study are amounted to 356 teachers and 1721 students respectively.
The study shows: the average score rate of these two areas? students oral health knowledge is around 60%, the score rate of these two areas? students oral health attitude is around 75%, and the score rate of these two areas? students oral health practice is around 50%. It shows that these two areas? students oral health knowledge, attitude, and practice are obviously different to each other when attending the cleaning teeth team and extend activities. But schools? organization does not actually effects. Teachers? support is also the reasons, which effects students? oral health knowledge and attend extend activities. However, teachers? satisfaction does not completely effects students.
Students? oral health education is suggested to increasing the members of learning cleaning teem, or to teach the cleaning teeth curriculum to each student. Teachers should increase more support on extend activities, in order to raise participate percentage of students, and in this way to improve students? oral health presentation. Students? resting time should be adjusted to comply long-term implement cleaning teeth after meal. Meanwhile, to establish the class doctors system to exclude that students can not have regular teeth inspections, and to enable dentists inspect students? oral health.
