為因應全球化與國際競爭力，這幾年來台灣各大學校院積極發展有效的專業英語 (ESP, English for Specific Purpose)相關課程，期能提供適當的師資、教材、教法，以協 助學生畢業後能成功地與專業領域接軌或與產業鏈結，故ESP相關領域的研究與課程發 展也成為國內英語教學研究的當務之急。 2012年3月8日來自實踐大學、台灣科技大學、亞洲大學、南台科大、陸軍官校等教 授召開第一次籌劃會議，會中擬定由實踐大學、亞洲大學、南台科技大學、及臺灣專業 英語文學會等機構於2012年暑期，共同舉辦「專業英語文教學理論與實務研習營」，希 冀邀集對專業英語文教學理論有深入研究、且又有實際教學或產學實務經驗之國際學者 專家來臺，分享他們個人精湛知識及經驗，同時與國內專業英語文教學領域之學者作進 一步交流，期能探討國內大學校院專業英語課程規劃需求，並同時提昇國內專業英語研 究之水準。
To meet the challenges of globalization and international competitiveness, many institutions across Taiwan have strived to prepare students with workplace language demands. Tailored programs, which take into consideration material selection, quality language teaching and learning, are in need to bring students’competence and performance more in line with current industry demands. Conducting research and developing curricula for ESP contexts is thus of great importance in the ESL field. On March 8, 2012, teachers from Shih Chien University, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Asia University, Southern Taiwan University, and Army Academy held a preliminary meeting to discuss plans for co-organizing workshops on ESP theory and application. The organizing committee decided to hold a 4-day ESP workshop in the summer of 2012, inviting ESP experts and trainers to share their knowledge and experience and, simultaneously, to enhance interaction with local scholars and experts. The workshop aims to explore English language education for specific professional needs and to enhance research capacities in the areas of ESL.
