    Title: The Relationship between Personal Traits and Job Satisfactions of nurse Aides

    Abstract: Background: The nurse aids play an important role in nursing home. The researches pointed out that the nurse aids’ care quality are relative to their work satisfaction and work experiences in the past studies. In the view of personality, there are unique, stability, and endurance characters of personality, these characters affect the individual’s attitude and behavior, and result in the differences between each other, the personality are often used as tools to predict the behavior and work satisfaction of people .
    Purpose: (1) To understand the relationships between personality, job characteristics and the work satisfaction of nurse aids. (2) to explore the relative factors between the working traits of nurse aid and working satisfaction.(3) to explore the effect such as the demographic traits, working traits, and personality traits for work of satisfaction.
    Material and Methods: Using purposive sampling from the members of nurse aids in 20 long-term care organizations including 5 nursing home, 2 long-term care facilities and 13 eldery Care Center in Miaoli and Hsinchu. A total of 291 questionnaires are issued and 213 questionnaires are collected until April 18, 2008 with responding rate of 73%. The describing, variance, correlation and regression statistical analysis is conducted with SPSS 10.0 software.
    Result: After adjusted other effect factors, age, the types of facilities, work hours of daily and the extraversion and conscientiousness of personality are statistical significant effect the job satisfaction. The higher extraversion and conscientiousness of personality of nurse aids, the higher working satisfaction. In job characteristics, there are more working satisfaction in Nursing Home and long-term care facilities than other facilities. There is more working satisfaction for the nurse aids who careless than 7 persons, their salary more than NT$ 2,5001 and employed by registered civic organization .
    Conclusion and Suggestions: When the organization select the nurse aids, we suggest that organization select the nurse aids not only for the higher age, higher educational level but also through the personality inventory as the selected tools. Selecting the nurse aids of personality of higher extraversion and conscientiousness is better for care service.
