Abstract: Interprofessional collaboration in research has been supported in the health field. With the
recognition that action research (AR) is increasingly viewed as a crucial research tool in health, this
paper focuses on collaboration in the interprofessional action research process. It is believed that the
collaborative process of interprofessional inquiry in health AR groups can help increase the quality of
research outcomes and then efficiently improve problems in health care practice. While the strength of
interprofessional collaboration for AR in health settings contributes to a wide variety of professional
perspectives, its potential weakness ironically comes from such advantage for producing wider
knowledge in solving health problems. To facilitate the collaborative process in AR for
interprofessional inquiry and knowledge is challenging due to professional differences which affect the
research group dynamics. Interprofessional socialization has been identified as one solution to the
difficulties with the collaborating group. In addition, it is argued that collaborative approach must also
be inquiring, reflective and active through the entire AR process.
