Abstract: Aimed at learning urban-rural differences in society motivation and obstacles of schoolchildren in senior classes of primary schools in Taichung city, this research takes schoolchildren, who have participated in society activities, in senior classes of primary schools in Taichung city as subjects. The children were asked to complete questionnaires, with 447 valid copies returned. Then, it conducted data analysis with descriptive statistics, independent sample t-test, single factor variance analysis and Scheff? post-hoc comparisons. The research results show there are four factors for society motivation of schoolchildren; personal achievement, health-related fitness, psychological needs and social needs. Meanwhile, There are three factors for society participation obstacles of school age children ; intrapersonal constraint, interpersonal constraint and structural constraint. When comparing the differences in society motivation, it’s found that different genders, society categories, contact time and weekly practice hours shows a vary greatly divide in health-related fitness sector. First of all, regarding to the differences in society obstacles, different genders show a significant difference in intrapersonal constraint, interpersonal constraint and structural constraint, so do different classes. Different society categories show a dramatic difference in interpersonal constraint. The different weekly practice hours present a huge gap in intrapersonal constraint and interpersonal constraint as well. However, the interpersonal constraint and ctructural constraint lead to the most remarkable urban-rural difference. Sum up, it shows negative correlation between society motivation and obstacles of schoolchildren.
