    Title: A Study of Teenage Players Engaged in Volleyball Specialization and Physical Fitness

    Abstract: Most of the domestic volleyball researches were mainly physical training, tactics, action, or historical review, there were rarely young players related to volleyball specialization. The objective of this study was to investigate teenage players engaged in volleyball specialization and physical fitness. A random sampling of self-administered questionnaires was used to investigate the six junior and senior high school students in the period from March 10 to April 10 2012. Four hundred and eighty people were selected in this cross-sectional, descriptive study by using a structured questionnaire. Four hundred and twelve valid data were used to analyze as the results, the valid corresponding rate was 86.37 %. The statistic results showed that the skill and ability dimension of the volleyball specialization partly influenced the respondents’ performances of set and reach. The four dimensions of the volleyball specializations, general experience, skill and ability, equipment and investment, and enduring involvement, partly influenced their performances of standing long jumps, sit-ups exercises, and cardiopulmonary fitness. Last, the respondents’ volleyball participating motivations and constraints affected their performances of physical fitness. Based on the results of this study, it suggested that more games and fun can be plugged into the school physical education curriculum. Therefore, students can enjoy volleyball through sporting events, explanations of the rules of the game programs to improve their volleyball participation motivations.Keywords:teenage, volleyball, specialization, physical fitness, motivation, constraint
