The research is to study the relationship between internet usage, internet addiction, and personality traits of upper grade elementary students and to explore the variable outcomes from the different background for the internet usage, internet addiction, and personality traits. The Internet Usage Behavior Scale, Internet Addiction Scale and Personality Trait Scale are employed as a tool. A total of 531 questionnaires were sent out to the 5th & 6th graders of Taiping elementary school in Taiping District Taichung City. The analytical methods are the Mean, t-test, Chi-square test, Pearson product-moment correlation analysis, and Multiple stepwise regressions. The study findings are summarized as follows: 1. There exist significant differences in internet usage behavior, addiction between upper grades students from different backgrounds. 2. The upper grade elementary students play online are mainly for fun. 3. The addiction of internet usage is not severe in the upper grades elementary students. 4. The upper grades elementary students who are addicted to the internet have no time management issues. 5. There exist noticeable differences between the high risk internet addiction group and the common internet user group from different student's backgrounds. 6. There was a significant correlation between internet usage and internet addiction. 7. Different students' backgrounds do not make the significant impact on their personality. 8. In upper grade elementary students, different personalities do make a significant impact on their internet usage behavior, addiction. 9. There exists significant correlation between personality traits and internet addiction. 10. Personality traits could predict internet usage, addiction tendency . The results of the study can be used as references for the suggestions of scholars, schools and teachers.
