    Title: A case study on computer and network literacy of upper elementary graders in Taichung

    Abstract: The purposes of this study are to explore the computer and network literacy of elementary school students, to compare the background differences among elementary school students, and to examine the relationship between the computer and the network literacy of these students. The content of the test takes reference with “Index of Students Information Competence“, which is made for nine-year system classes of information. The test also takes other related information tests for reference. A total of 435 questionnaires were sent out to an elementary school in Taichung and all students completed.
    Our findings of this study were described as follows.
    1. Analysis of computer literacy of elementary school students indicated the following results:
    (a) Most elementary school student performs above the average in measuring of computer literacy.
    (b) Male and Female students show no significant difference in the performance of computer literacy.
    (c) Sixth grade students perform better than the fifth grade students in computer literacy.
    (d) Students have computers at their homes, computer literacy is shown better than the students without computers at home.
    2. Analysis of network literacy of elementary school students indicated the following results:
    (a) Most elementary school student performs above the average in measuring of network literacy.
    (b) Female students perform better than male students in network literacy.
    (c) Sixth grade students and fifth grade students no significant difference in the performance of network literacy.
    (d) Home computer can be connected to the network of students, quality is better than the home network can not connect to the Internet for students.
