Cardiovascular and heart diseases are common causes of death, with tens of millions of people dying from these diseases each year. Heart diseases require immediate treatment. If an automated external defibrillator (AED) is used as soon as possible in conjunction with manual cardiopulmonary resuscitation to analyze and interpret the heart rate of a patient and to defibrillate the patient, the chance of the patient being saved can be increased. First Aid Herald, a recent AED app developed by the National Fire Agency, has been connected with the service command centers of county- and city-level fire departments across Taiwan. When a command center receives a heart disease report, it can deliver case information to the users of First Aid Herald in a real-time, simultaneous manner. This app also provides various functions such as case location navigation, AED map, AED user guide, a metronome, first aid demonstration videos, simulation training, and instant reports. With the assistance of First Aid Herald, people who want to help patients with heart diseases can join rescue endeavors instantly, fulfilling the goal of “first aid by all.” This study investigated the perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use of First Aid Herald according to the general public, along with the usage attitudes and usage intentions of the public. A questionnaire survey was conducted, and 209 responses were collected for analysis. The findings are as follows: (1) perceived ease of use positively affected perceived usefulness, (2) perceived usefulness positively affected usage attitude, (3) perceived ease of use positively affected usage attitude, and (4) usage attitude positively affected usage intention. The conclusion and suggestions are presented according to the analysis results to provide a key reference in promoting First Aid Herald. |
