This study aimed to investigate the work stress and sleep quality among public health nurses under the impact of the Coronavirus Disease-2019 pandemic.A structured questionnaire survey was conducted among public health nurses in the thirteen townships and cities of Nantou County. A total of 65 questionnaires were distributed, and all 65 responses were valid, resulting in a response rate of 100%. Data processing was performed using Microsoft 365 Professional Plus and IBM SPSS Statistics 20.0 software. Descriptive statistics, independent sample t-tests, one-way analysis of variance, and Pearson correlation were used for data analysis. The main findings of the study revealed that work stress among public health nurses was most strongly associated with the perception of workload. The average score for sleep quality was 7.80, with 70.8% of the nurses experiencing poor sleep quality during the pandemic. Overall, the public health nurses reported a moderate to high level of work stress. Work title, monthly overtime hours, increase in overtime hours after pandemic alert, and intention to transfer were found to be related to work stress. Gender, work title, monthly overtime hours, increase in overtime hours after pandemic alert, and intention to transfer were associated with sleep quality. There was a significant correlation between work stress and sleep quality among public health nurses, indicating that the higher the work stress, the worse the sleep quality. It is hoped that the results of this study will encourage relevant authorities to pay attention to the work stress and sleep quality of public health nurses. This, in turn, can help create a supportive and friendly work environment that allows nursing professionals to utilize their expertise and enhance the quality of health services provided to the public. |
