The aim of this study is to investigate whether the responsible behavior of food waste has changed after Taiwanese people have experienced global crises such as COVID-19 and the Russian-Ukrainian war, and what factors can affect such behavior. It is also hoped to fill the gaps in theoretical literature and practical research. This study collected data from a total of 181 valid respondents. The collected data was analyzed using SEM-PLS to measure and validate the hypotheses within the measurement and structural models. Our findings show that the COVID-19 will lead to more people exhibiting food waste reduction behavior, and increase awareness for the ethics and responsibility for food waste, as well as their awareness of the environmental consequences of food waste. The practical implication of this research highlight that although the global crisis poses a threat to people’s lives and properties, it is also a good moment to raise awareness of food waste for environmental protection and we discuss possible strategies on this matter. Our study offers a new perspective on food waste reduction in the future under the conditions of global crisis.
