Background: This study aims to explore the personal experiences of frontline staff in long-term care facilities dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic. It seeks to understand the challenges they encountered while providing care during this crisis and how they adapted to these situations. The goal is to derive valuable insights that can contribute to improving the quality of care and the effectiveness of infection prevention measures in long-term care facilities. Objectives: 1.To explore the personal experiences of frontline staff in long-term care facilities, particularly focusing on their experiences and encountered events while providing care during the Covid-19 pandemic. 2. To understand how these individuals adapt and cope when facing such situations.3.To assess the knowledge and skills of the staff regarding infectious diseases and their prevention and control.Research Method: This study adopts a qualitative research approach using semi-structured in-depth interviews. The participants include 10 nursing staff and nurse assistants currently working in several long-term care facilities in the central region, Taiwan.Research Results: The study categorized five main themes: 1.Insufficient knowledge as a barrier 2.Unfamiliarity, uncertainty, and fear 3.Crisis management and standard operating procedures 4.Communication strains 5.With sincerity efforts and mutual understandingConclusion: Through qualitative research, this study explored the psychological changes faced by frontline staff in long-term care facilities during the pandemic. It revealed that these frontline workers lacked sufficient knowledge about novel infectious diseases, leading to feelings of unfamiliarity, uncertainty, and fear. However, they gained effective infection prevention measures through their experiences. The facilities needed to adapt their standard operating procedures continually. Communication became distant due to the restriction of visitation with residents. Nevertheless, the frontline staff demonstrated patience and compassionate care towards confirmed residents. They also displayed mutual understanding and support, helping residents cope with the challenges brought about by the pandemic.
