This study aimed to explore the relationship between the flow experience and perceived risk of tourism in Japanese festival self-guided travel participants. The purpose of the study was to understand why participants chose to participate in a self-guided tour of a Japanese festival and what they expected from the event. At the same time, this study also aimed to compare the degree of flow experience and the perceived risk of travel among participants before and after the epidemic. The research adopted the method of in-depth interviews, interviewing some research subjects who participated in the self-help travel of Japanese festival activities. Questions related to personal background factors and motivations for participation, degree of flow experience, and perceived risk of travel were covered in the interviews. The results of the study showed that the participants who chose to participate in the self-guided travel of Japanese festivals were mainly attracted by specific festival activities or themes and expected to obtain unique cultural experiences and emotional connections from the activities. In terms of flow experience, participants generally showed characteristics such as clear goal setting, clear feedback, focus on the current task, and distortion of time perception. However, after the epidemic, participants paid more attention to the perceived risk of tourism, including financial risk, physical risk, psychological risk, time risk, and functional risk. Conclusion: There was a certain correlation between the flow experience and the perceived risk of tourism among the self-help travel participants of Japanese festivals. The epidemic has affected the participants' flow experience and perceived risk of travel. Passengers should consider corresponding epidemic prevention measures and travel restrictions under the premise of epidemic control to protect personal health and safety. |
