Abstract: | Religion plays a very important role in human’s lives. It can inspire its believers to solve problems in their lives. In addition, religion activity are good for releasing the pressure and comforting the soul. People may feel relaxed after the activity. Therefore, they have the similar function of recreation. Because of that, the goal of this research, based on the location of Dong-Lung Temple in Donggang, is to understand the relationship between the degree of the religion activity involvement of local people and the place attachment. This research is designed to be carried out with questionnaires with simple random sampling. The location chosen is Dong-Lung Temple in Donggang Township. There are 256 respondents with response rate of 91.42%. The research shows that those who are married with children, aged 31 to 50, with high school diploma, and without secured income such as retirees, housewives, and students are the main Temple goers. The means of transportation is mainly scooters. Those temple goers often go with family. The main purpose for people go there is to pay the respect for the god. They go there at least once a month. There is significant differentiation in the degree of religion activity involvement if the goers are local or not. Some factors also affect the degree of religion activity involvement such as gender, age, education, purpose, and frequency. The research also found that place attachment is affected by the factors of marriage, age, education, companion, purpose, and frequency. A positive correlation can be found between the degree of religion activity involvement and the place attachment. In other words, the higher degree of religion activity involvement results in higher place attachment. It can be interpreted that by practicing the religion activity, local people have the chance to understand and appreciate the religion. Therefore, they identify themselves with the temple, and depend on it for soul comforting. In the end, they combine themselves with the temple, and it becomes a part of their lives. |
