    Abstract: This research aims at carrying on outdoor teaching to Chung-hsiao Elementary School. In an outdoor teaching way, this study lets students have a basic recognition for the ecological environment. Taking the natural resource in the campus as the teaching materials, the researcher goes on the plan for outdoor teaching, so as to let students understand how natural ecology is formed just from their living environment.
    This study proceeds in accordance with the teaching plan and a series of teaching processes. By using activity worksheets and questionnaire investigation, the researcher can analyze the teaching design and the improvement in the teaching process. The results shows that students shows great interests in outdoor teaching; what is more, they can acquire new knowledge. Because of experimental learning, they can have a better understand toward what they have learned and even have more active interaction with their classmates. Therefore, using outdoor teaching for environmental recognition is a beginning. It is suggested that the further study can conduct a study on the research and teaching on insects and achieve the purpose of outdoor teaching.
