The objective of this study was to plan appropriate family trip itineraries. Concerning family trips, they are a type of travel involving family members and one that enhances the emotional exchanges between participating family members as well as the bond and cohesiveness between them. In this study, Sanyi Township was selected as the family trip site, and locations in said township suitable for family trips were selected; the Old Mountain Line Rail Bike was set as a major destination of such family trips. Subsequently, this study used mind maps to plan activities that exposed family trip members (i.e., the participants) to local cultural and distinctive resources. This study adopted the participation observation and secondary data analysis methods as its research methods to observe and record the participants’ family trip experience for varying destination–travel route combinations. Activities such as the Fire Dragon from the Cloud Festival and firefly–Tung blossom-viewing were organized and compared with other tour packages offered commercially. The results of this study may serve as references to relevant units when planning family trip products.
