Facial expressions have been an emotional communication between humans and different artifacts that mimic or represent human faces, for example, cartoon drawings, sculptures, cultural masks, animations, robots, digital avatars, photographs, etc. When humans watch a poster, TV adverts, newspaper, movie, or use digital devices that have emojis or an avatar with cartoon characters and other facial drawings, they also perceive emotional communication due to the interaction with cartoon facial expressions. Therefore, understanding and assessing the viewers' emotional response in relation to the portrayal of these cartoon facial expressions is necessary. The purpose of this study consists of investigating whether the change in sizes of the eyes or nose in the facial features in the cartoon facial expression may stimulate positive or negative valence, as well as which excitement emotions can be triggered when the sizes of these two facial features change. The study was done for 55 adults, above 20-year-old, in Taiwan. The use of Self-Assessment Manikin, SAM was being practiced as a simple and efficient method for evaluating emotions for imagery and AIPS-based questionnaire. The study shows large and small eye sizes as the intense emotional stimuli on a certain facial expression.
