The main purpose of this study is to discuss the leisure experience of independent band participants, who are over 30 years old and have a non-musical full-time job. This reserch is based on the theory of serious leisure and flow experience and ues in-depth interview for date collection.
The result of this research are summarized as follows:
    (i) The motivation of independent band participants to participate in band activities gradually changed from external to internal motivation. Music creation is the common motivation for the 7 band participants to continue to participate in band activities.
(ii) The 7 independent band participants in this study all showed the characteristics of " perseverance " and " durable benefits " in serious leisure. Independent band participants have overcome various difficulties and frustrations such as lack of time and continue to participate in independent band activities. At the same time, they have also gained a sense of accomplishment from self-actualization, self-expression, self-enrichment and enhancement of self-image, which makes the participants have the motivation to continue to participate in music and independent band activities.
(iii) In this study, "altered sense of time" is the common characteristic of flow experience presented by all 7 band participants; "clear goals" and "challenges and skills balance " are the characteristics of flow experience that are the most difficult to achieve.
