    Title: 智慧型電腦縫紉機功能圖示設計及辨識度研究
    A Study on the Icon Design and Recognization of the Functional Icon of Smart Computer Sewing Machine

    Abstract: 由於數位與觸控科技的發展,觸控式螢幕儼然成為現今產品的主要操作模式,其操作介面的功能圖示,必須準確傳達意涵,讓使用者透過視覺立即了解所欲傳達的內容。本研究對象為鮮少人接觸的智慧型電腦縫紉機,是一款擁有電腦數位化編輯以及自動縫紉功能的產品,提供使用者更多元便利的選擇。目前智慧型電腦縫紉機仍由BROTHER、JANOME、BERNINA三大廠牌為主,其操作介面的功能圖示各有差異,由於智慧型電腦縫紉機的功能圖示相關領域研究甚少,且功能圖示的不統一對於使用者來說,便提高使用難度,尤其在智慧型電腦縫紉機上,經常發現因面臨相同功能、不同圖示的狀況,造成使用者的混淆,因此本研究希望透過對圖示造型的研究,得到四個結果:1)提供業界更有辨識度、更符合縫紉功能的圖示設計,並且擁有統一標準與規格。2)使用者面臨需更換機型或廠牌時,能減少產生疑惑和誤解。3)對於初學者也能降低進入縫紉機領域的障礙,提升辨識的速度和準確性。4)重新優化設計智慧型電腦縫紉機的功能圖示。
    本研究以賴志睿(2018)的智慧型電腦縫紉機之高偏好度功能圖像設計要素作為優化設計的參考依據,邀請五位具有四年以上設計經驗的設計師,針對上述研究中的高偏好度功能圖示樣本進行優化設計發想,之後由研究者在Adobe Illustrator CC 2015上進行繪製,並進一步做設計師的口語分析,了解設計師的思考方法及設計思維,再將高偏好度功能圖示樣本結合五位設計師提出的優化設計樣本進行問卷調查,讓受測者選出辨識度高及造型喜好度高的圖示。問卷以SurveyCake網路問卷平台進行「智慧型電腦縫紉機功能圖示辨識度與風格喜好度」調查,並於各大社交媒體發放,針對18至25歲之受測者進行調查,最後共回收570份問卷,有效問卷有 291份,無效問卷為279份。
    本研究透過問卷調查後,得到下列五項結果:1)功能圖示的辨識度特徵:專業操作或生活中不常接觸的功能採具象化設計、常見功能採約定成俗符號設計、視覺符號傳達操作意涵、對於熟悉的功能圖示偏好一體成形且簡約的設計、工具性圖示作為輔助更能提高認知連結、與語言或文字相關的功能圖示偏好有語言符號作為輔助、偏好整體線寬一致且較有量感的設計。2)受測者對於基本功能偏好線條設計為主的造型,且避免複雜的線段設計,但對縫紉功能圖示較無明確的風格偏好。3)功能圖示的辨識度及風格喜好度之關聯性並非一致。4)無論有無使用經驗的受測者皆排斥過於簡潔的抽象設計、不偏好對圖示設計過度描寫、偏好工具性圖示輔助、排斥圖示整體比例懸殊。5)女性與男性所選之高辨識度圖示大致相同。
    最後,提出下列幾點對後續研究的建議:1)開發一款結合所有高偏好功能圖示設計的智慧型電腦縫紉機,提供設計師使用並詳細了解產品本身,以利功能圖示後續設計。2)受測者樣本數女性多於男性,雖然未影響研究結果,但仍建議未來能將樣本數提高達到1:1的情況。3)透過焦點團體的口語訪談,更細節性了解受測者對圖示造型的偏好原因。4)納入不同語言、不同文化背景之受測者的意見及認知,更完善縫紉機產業的圖示。
    期望此研究結果能提供縫紉機領域作為參考依據,設計出更具有辨識度的造型設計,成為一個全球化領域共通的功能性圖示。
    The touch screen is the major operational mode of today's products. On the operating interface, the visual functional icon must accurately deliver the meaning to users. This study object is a smart computer sewing machine with computerized digital editing and automatic sewing function. At present, the smart computer sewing machine is still dominated by the three major brands of BROTHER, JANOME and BERNINA, and the functional icons on the operating interface are different. Due to the functional icons on the smart computer sewing machine are not uniform, it finds that the user is confused because of the same function with a different icon. Therefore, this study’s objectives are: 1) providing a recognizable and suitable sewing design in the industry with uniform standards and specifications. 2) When users face with the need to change model or platform, they can reduce doubts and misunderstandings. 3) For beginners, it can also reduce obstacles and improve the speed and accuracy of identification. 4) To re-optimize the functional icon of the smart computer sewing machines.

    In this study, Lai's (2018) high-priority functional icon designed elements of smart computer sewing machines are used as a reference to optimal design. Five designers with more than four-years experience redesign the functional icons, and then the researcher draws by Adobe Illustrator CC 2015, and further do the oral analysis of designers, understands the designer's conceptual design. A questionnaire survey was conducted in conjunction with the optimized design samples proposed by the five designers, allowing the subjects to select images with high recognization and high preference for styling. The survey of the “Smart Computer Sewing Machine Functional Icon Recognization and Style Preferences” was conducted on the SurveyCake Internet Questionnaire platform. The subjects' age is 18 to 25, and a total of 570 copies were collected. There were 291 valid questionnaires and 279 invalid questionnaires.

    Moreover, the following five results were obtained: 1) The identifying characteristics of the professional operational icon: using the custom symbol or visual design; the icon with a tool-based image can improve cognitive links; language or text-related icon prefer linguistic symbols as an aid. 2) The subjects prefer line design, but for the basic function avoids complicated line segment design, for the sewing function has no clear style preference. 3) The correlation between the recognization of the functional icon and the preference on the style is not related. 4) All subjects reject the over-abstract, over-describe, and over-disproportion icons, but prefer the tool-aid images. 5) Women and men’s opinion of high recognization icon have roughly the same.

    Finally, some suggestions are proposed for future study: 1) Providing designers with a detailed specification to develop a smart computer sewing machine that combines all high-priority icon design. 2) The number of female subjects is higher than males in the study, but it is recommended to increase the number of samples to 1:1 in the future. 3) Through the focus groups' oral interviews, the study could get more detail information about the subjects' preferences. 4) The opinions and cognition of different languages and cultures are involved which could improve the functional icon of the sewing machine industry.

    The results of this study confirm to provide a reference to a smart computer sewing machine and apply recognizable design rules to be a universal functional icon design in the smart computer sewing domain.
