The domestic annuity reform was implemented in July 2017, so that the security of the civil servants after retirement is ruthlessly compressed and cannot be part-time. As the consumer price index climbs year by year, investing in financial instruments is another way for civil servants to increase their income in order to counter the price shocks brought about by the changes in the environment. However, investors who are new to society or are preparing to invest in financial instruments or commodities may be tempted to choose the investment target. Therefore, this study will explore the relationship between both the personality traits and past investment experience and the choice of investment targets, and hope to serve as a reference for investors and financial industry to accelerate the mutual understanding of investment needs.
This study uses online questionnaires and paper questionnaires to collect information on four categories of personality traits, which are "internal control tendency", "external control tendency", "risk commitment" and "self-affirmation", and "investment experience" of Taichung City firefighters. Using the binary Logit regression analyses, this study explores the relationship between both the personality traits and investment experience and the choice of investment targets.
The results show that there is no correlation between internal control tendency personality traits and selection of investment targets, the external control tendency personality trait is positively correlated with futures investments, and negatively correlated with savings insurances; the risk personality trait is positively correlated with funds and futures investments, and negatively correlated with deposit investments; self-affirmation personality is positively correlated with deposit investments, and negatively correlated with savings insurances. There is a positive relationship between investment experience and all investment targets.
Finally, the conclusion of this study is that there is a certain correlation between both the personality traits and investment experience and the choice of investment targets. Therefore, the questionnaire designed by this study should help investors and financial industry to accelerate the understanding of investment needs.
