    Authors:
Pickleball、People with Disabilities、Qualitative Interviews
    Date: 2018
    Issue Date: 2018-07-18
    Publisher:
The research applies grounded theory approach of the qualitative interviews as its methodology, collecting data from content analysis, semi-structured interview and observation, the resulting data was analyzed by triangulation. The results obtained are as follows:
First, the motives for people who have disabilities to participate in sports include novelty, fun, achievement, etc.; in the other side, the barriers are mainly limited by their own obstacles, such as intelligence, sense of space, coordination, etc.
Second, students with physical and mental disabilities have a positive attitude toward physical education. When teaching physical education courses, special education teachers allowing all students to participate stand for principle. According to students’ ability, using ability grouping or task analysis to make students complete the tasks step by step.
Third, using SWOT analysis for feasibility assessment for people with disabilities participating in Pickleball:
1."advantages" in novelty, fun, slow speed, sounds when falling, achievement, etc.
2."weakness" to insufficient equipments, professionalism, popularity, etc.
3."opportunity" for two sets of Pickleball priciples, certification of C-level coach and judgment, etc.
4."threat" for there are too many sports nowadays, some sports are specially for people who have diasbilities.
The results of the study show that those who have disabilities would be hindered by the incomplete Pickleball system and their own limitations. After appropriate teaching and enough practice, the possibility of people with disabilities participating in Pickleball will be higher in the future.
Forth, the subjects of the study remained positive about Pickleball may be included in the National Games for the people with disabilities in the future.
This study hopes to assess the feasibility of people with disabilities participating in Pickleball, in order to find an appropriate emerging-sport, combined with the opinions of all parties, for future research of this concerned.
