Abstract: Wayang Kulit performances, originated in Indonesia, is known as one of the predecessor of animation; however, there is no definite methodology that supports the development process of these performances that we know nowadays. This paper aims to study the applications of the famous “12 basic principles of animation” to the Wayang Kulit performances. These principles were originally developed to make 2D animation, especially character animation, more realistic and entertaining and they have been used intensively in 2D and 3D animation production. A qualitative study is done by observing their appearances and possible variations in the Wayang Kulit Performances.
