Abstract: Due to the ageing of world’s population, home accidents especially falls have become one of the major causes of mortality and morbidity in the elderly. Over past few years a number of wearable devices based on accelerometers have been tested to detect falls.
Those waist-mounted or chest-mounted devices, however, were not only user unfriendly but also lack of 100% accuracy. This paper proposes an active wrist-wear RFID tag integrating with two-way radio functionality for elder falls notification that care givers are able to check the situation of user by two-way radio communication in real time to avoid waste of resource due to possible misjudgment.
