    Title: A study of Relationship Between Leisure Activity and Depression Tendency on Junior High School Students

    Abstract: The purpose of this study is to investigate the current the leisure activity and depression tendency in Tainan County junior high schools, intending to propose a model suitable for the future program.
    The research methods used questionnaire survey. The subjects were students joining in the second semester of 2009. The total questionnaires were1300, and all of the questionnaires were retrieved; the returning rate was 100 %. After eliminating ineffective ones, 1284 raw data were analyzed by statistical methods, including frequency distribution,mean value, t-test, Pearson’s product- moment correlation, one-wayanalysis of variance and Scheffe’ method for posteriori comparison. According to the results of this study, the conclusions were summarized as follows.
    1. Leisure activities of junior high school students could be categorized into 7 types: sports, slow living, crafts, visual audio entertainment, intellectual, outdoor recreation, and tourism recreation.
    2. The significant differences were found between leisure activities and gender, grade level, parents’ career and education, family income (per month), and leisure time of junior high school students.
    3. The result indicated significant differences between depression tendency and gender, grade level, family background and leisure time of junior high school students.
    4. The significant differences existed between different depression tendency and leisure activities.
    5. Depression tendency was associated with leisure activities.
