Abstract: In this paper, we have analyzed the character-istics of 781 highly cited articles in the Science CitationIndex Expanded of category of horticulture published from1961 to 2014. A total of 33 journals were grouped underWeb of Science category of horticulture. Article has beencited more than 100 times being published since 1961 as-sessed in the terms of their distribution in the journals, andcitation life cycle. Further, we have evaluated performanceof authors, country and institutions. The Journal Theoreti-cal and Applied Genetics and American Journal of Enologyand Viticulture were more productive journals. Most ofthe highly cited articles published in 1990s and 2000s, re-spectively. Average authors per article also kept increasingfrom 1960s to 2000s, respectively. University of California,Davis and Cornell University in USA were the most pro-ductivity institutions and USA and the UK were the mostcontributing countries. The citation life cycles of the highlycited articles indicate that majority of the highly cited arti-cles had received less citation in their publication decade, later started to receive good number of citations.
