Abstract: The research explored the decision factors that the parents’ in Taichung City had their children attend the art talented music classes. The research conducted with the questionnaire to understand the weights of each factor in the parents’ mind, and the result was used to be the direction for school to response the low birth rate. There were three dimension investigated in the study, including "child self-growth", "leisure and parent-child relationship", and "school resources", and it was expected to have differences. Through the analytic hierarchy process (AHP), the result from the attribute analysis not only could provide statistics for the current situation but get the predictability.
The major findings were as follows: First, under the comparison of "child self-growth", "leisure and parent-child relationship" and "learning resource", "child self-growth" was the main factor of parent's decision-making. Under the "child self-growth", the "develop a child's sound personality" was the most important of all properties. It could be seen that most parents thought learning music could develop a child's sound personality. Second, despite the differences in background variables, the top four attributes of the majority of parents’ decisions were "cultivating children's sound personality", "learning to work together with others ", "cultivating self- time management ", "enhancing parent-child interaction". From above findings, the parents had a positive expectation toward the impact of music education on children and in the decision-making process, most parents took children’s development for priority consideration. Therefore, school can arrange more activities for children to cultivate sound personality, such as being a volunteer performer for charities and it can bring positive influence to build children’s right personalities and time-management. If there are some specific ways can be carried out, schools can post on the website, attracting and promoting to students’ parents.
Finally, to provide students complete learning resources, let parents be assured that children attend school, and also let schools offer a learning environment corresponding trend, some pedagogical and administrative suggestions were proposed for the schools with music talented classes.
