Abstract: Purpose: To study and understand the anticancer effect of pu’er tea by using meta analysis.
Method: The systematic searching of PubMed, EBSCO, Google scholar databases, adding Chinese literature in Airiti Library, CNKI Library, up to April 30, 2017, was conducted to identify studies including keywords: Pu’er tea, Pu-erh, Pu’er, cancer and anticancer. Systematic review and meta-analysis were to assess the anti-cancer effect of Pu-erh tea by using RevMan 5 and Stata software.
Result: After filtering, including 10 studies in the systematic review were cell experiments in vitro, 4 of them were also in vivo animal experiments and only 2 studies could be analyze by meta-analysis. Systematic review at these vitro and vivo studies, most results of them showed that Pu'er tea had significant effect on the proliferation, activity, survival rate, metastasis and angiogenesis of cancer cells, and could promote the apoptosis of cancer cells. These anticancer effects had better by overtime and increasing concentration of Pu’er tea. Moreover, the meta-analysis of OD540 indicated that overall standardized mean difference (SMD) was -0.414 (95%CI:-0.558,-0.27, P<0.01), and demonstrated the significant anti-cancer effect of Pu'er tea.
Conclusion: Pu’er tea had significant anti-cancer effect on certain cancer cells and had a better effect over time and concentration. Some study showed that pu’er tea only to prevent not for treatment of cancer. It’s recommended to drink pu'er tea on usual to achieve the effect of prevention, not pu'er tea as a cancer drug.
