    Title: Perception of fire safety in restaurant from customers

    Abstract: In recent years, the rate of dining out has been increasing gradually every year because of the change of social trends and lifestyles. Therefore, the issue about the safety in dining places has become more and more important. The purpose of this study is primarily to analyze major fire accident cases in Taiwan and to find out the current status of Fire Service Act, Building Act, and customers perception towards the fire safety in dining places. The methodology of this research is to utilize a questionnaire survey to obtain samples from customers of a well-known chain restaurant. Descriptive statistical analysis, One-way ANOVA and an independent sample t-test were utilized for 1,000 questionnaries in this study. The final conclusion and recommendations are as follows: (1) Major fire accident cases have raised customer’s awareness about fire safety in dining places and have further accelerated the improvement of related laws and regulations. (2) Obeying observance of Fire Service Act and Building Act should be a primary responsibility for restaurant managers. (3) Clear indications of evacuation direction indicators and fire extinguishers in dining places are strongly recommended. (4) Fire safety perception of female customers’ needs to be further enhanced.
