Abstract: | According to the Fire Service Act, the three primary missions of Taiwanese fire agencies are fire prevention, disaster rescue and emergency medical service. Due to urban development, advancing technologies, and changing architectures…, the amount of disaster rescue missions for fire departments in each region has decreased, however the number of emergency medical service mission kept on increasing.
Emergency medical service been one of the heaviest duty for fire agencies, include common reasons such as urgent illness and traffic accidents, or the recently noticed rise of roadside unexplained fainting and mental illness. These reasons are categorized and compared between Taiwanese special municipalities (Taipei City, New Taipei City, Taoyuan City, Taichung City, Tainan City, and Kaohsiung City), the differences of the statistical data are been analyzed and discussed, as a reference for future improvements of emergency medical service in fire agencies.
This research is based on the categorized statistical data of the six special municipalities’ emergency medical service duties carried out from 2010 to 2015. Research method includes statistical analysis and chi-square test, and is carried out via statistic software called SPSS PASW.
For the result, firstly the emergency medical service for traffic accident, the mass transportation usage rate has negative correlation with the amount of emergency medical service for traffic accidents, showing positive effect of constructing mass transportation system. Secondly, the emergency medical service for urgent illness, the possible reasons as amount of visits to hospital, population, and population density found no direct correlation with emergency medical service for urgent illness, and only indicates people who live in Taipei City and New Taipei City are more likely to call emergency medical service for urgent illness. Next, the emergency medical service for roadside unexplained fainting, the larger quantity of liquor business or higher mass transportation usage rate leads to higher demand of emergency medical service for roadside unexplained fainting. Finally, the emergency medical service for mental illness, the size of registered mental illness population and financial stress factor didn’t find obvious correlations, therefore further research will be required. |
