Abstract: Target: According to past literature, it points out that most infective endocarditis is triggered by medical practices and infection. The course of the disease from the onset to be complicated by other infectious diseases or sepsis is usually very short., Furthermore, infective endocarditis is a low cure rate and high mortality disease. Previous studies of infective endocarditis focused on clinical microbiology ; however, it is rare to explore the incidence and influencing factors of this disease. This study, aims to investigate the incidence of infective endocarditis and related factors with the occurrence of infective endocarditis.
method: The study information is from Sources of National Health Insurance database, selected ICD-9-CM which is the primary or secondary diagnosis patients with infective endocarditis of 4210,4211,4219 from 20021th January to 31th December 2011, as object of research. This study employed descriptive statistics to do Statistical analysis and calculated 2002 - 2011 annual incidence of infective endocarditis. This study adopted propensity score matching methods, and in logistic regression models, analyzing related factors of infective endocarditis occurred.
Results: In this study, there are 358 infective endocarditis patients. Proportion of male is higher than female (71.8%), and the age is over 66 years old, whose insured amount is between $ 17,280 and $ 22,800 NTD. Among them, the percentage of a total of disease severity (CCI) 0 points is higher. In 2002, the incidence rate of Infective endocarditis is 2.6 in 100,000 populations, and the number is increasing year by year. To 2011, the rate was 5.6 per 100,000 people, the annual average growth rate is 8.9%. Significant factors influencing the occurrence of infective endocarditis comprising: higher comorbidity severity (CCI) , receiving dialysis treatment, addiction patients, and 90 days prior to the diseased had the following medical practice: suffering a cold or had done surgery.
Conclusion: The rate of suffering from Infective endocarditis is increasing year by year. In addition to personal health, it is worth to attention to factors of infective endocarditis influence, because the patients with Infective endocarditis are mostly associated with the medical practice.
