Abstract: The purpose of this study is to examine a model which explains students' attitudes toward sport diversity with the correlates such as cultural and personal values, personality traits, and diversity value orientation. The model is developed based on Hofstede’s cultural values, Schwartz’s personal values, big five, universal diverse orientation, and sport diversity attitudes. The questionnaire is used including paper and online surveys. In total, 140 participants from junior schools, 141 from senior high schools, and 145 from colleges in Tainan city, Taiwan provided valid questionnaires. Cronbach's Alphas of scales are between 0.716 and 0.944. Correlation coefficients are between 0.390 and 0.611 among six variables. Regression analysis shows that the variance explained of diversity value orientation is 35.2% by four predictors: low power distance, self-direction, stimulation, and openness to experience. The variance explained of sport diversity attitudes is 27.3% by four predictors and the mediator, diversity value orientation. Diversity value orientation fully mediates the relationships between personal values (self-direction and stimulation) and sport diversity attitudes. However, relationships between low power distance and sport diversity attitudes and between openness to experience and sport diversity attitudes were partly mediated by diversity value orientation. In conclusion, this study constructed a model to explain that diverse sports attitude can be related to cultural and personal values, personality, and diversity value orientation. A campus where diverse values are encouraged may cultivate students with diverse sports attitudes.
